Muse - resistance
Muse - undisclosed desires
New Muse. Who'd have thought? Not me. But that's my fault, hard working blokes always take me by surprise.
It seems that the boys have been busy rummaging through grandpa's vinyl collection again, because - and yes, everyone will point this out every time this album is mentioned, you can't help it - this is a sort of "back to mine" album. This is what we listen to, they seem to say: Queen, Debussy, Beethoven, Bach, even some Abba. It's all there and more. And they're proud of it.
I always thought it unjust to label Muse as being simply a teen-band. And they have always been cocky and dramatic, c'mon, don't act surprised. It's only natural that they would attempt rock opera. You do have the catchy tunes to hum along to - yes, you will clap at the concert, this album has it's own 'starlight' - but they don't hide the fact that this time they're after something bigger. The boys know there's more to music than Radiohead or Jeff Buckley and they want to let us in on it. Thank you.
The only thing that kind of bothers me (and not just on this album) is that Matt, though he does have a good voice, sort of moans a bit too much. I mean, Matt, you do need Freddy's balls to match the music, you know. But other than that, yeah, cool, try stuff, that's great.
