Another new album - PJ Harvey's Let England Shake.
I've only listened to it a couple of times, but for the most of it I had the feeling this wasn't the Polly I knew. She speaks of the world around her, as opposed to the one inside her described at length on her other nine albums. Political, too.
The album has a small but prestigious list of guests: Mick Harvey (who does vocals as well, on the ending song "The Color Of The Earth"), John Parish and producer Flood. You can't really go wrong. Not that Polly ever did.
A number of influences too. Sometimes her voice reminds me of Kate Bush or Elisabeth Fraser. Sometimes the guitar seems to be played by Joey Santiago. Some middle-eastern stuff thrown in there as well (or is that Elvish?)

It's all jolly good.
Here's one that reminds me of Kate Bush, or Sinead O'Connor, or someone like that. It's got a little battle trumpet lost in there, too, I have no idea what's that got to do with anything, musically speaking, but hey.
