I had no idea Leonard Cohen had a son. And why shouldn't he? After all, Leonard was (and in my opinion, still is) a "ladies' man". But I realized I don't know much about the family life of many of my favorites. Up until few months ago I was pretty positive that Nick Cave had only one son, Luke, and that because I had read a biography about him, like, ten years ago and it contained a picture of Nick and Luke as a very small boy. In my mind Luke still was 5 years old, to be honest. But then I stumbled upon the fact that Nick has four sons by three different women. Hm #1!
Also, until very recently I have been entertaining very vague ideas about Gene's and Dean's respective family trees. I knew they had some sort of offspring, but I had no idea who had what and why and how many. I didn't even care about their ages. They are both 41, apparently, Aaron has a daughter and Mickey has a son. Good for them. Hm #2!
I have absolutely no idea how Mike Patton's doing in that area. All I know is he had an Italian wife. That's it. Hm #3... Tom Waits? Hm #4.
Do I care? Not really.
So Adam is Leonard's son. Huh. That must have been tough. I pity all the children of great men and women. The trouble must be double for them to make something of themselves. Trying to grow up into something, keeping one on that your father's legacy, making a conscious effort to be different while knowing that we all grow up and turn into our parents eventually. Life's confusing enough as it is, you know.
So, anyway, Adam had a band called Low Millions and now he's got a new solo album coming out in October called Like A Man. He's tried so hard to grow out of his father's enormous shadow and this is, apparently, his "coming of age" album. At 38. Better late than never. Well, judge for yourselves. To me it still sounds like early Leonard, but I'll wait for the album, see what else he's got there.
